MHP Increases Patrols For Testicle Festival

MISSOULA -

The 33rd annual Testicle Festival is underway, and officers are bringing in the reinforcements to prevent DUI's.

Starting Thursday the Montana Highway Patrol is sending out a safety enforcement traffic team, along with Missoula troopers to patrol I-90. A helicopter will also be flying over a stretch of I-90 to spot drunk drivers.

Missoula County Sheriff's will also be patrolling the area, and Missoula police will be out in full force in city limits. Officials said the event is historically dangerous for Montana roads.

“There's a lot of alcohol getting poured, people jumping in cars and leaving after that. They're driving under the influence, and we're here to stop that. If they want to try to run that gauntlet, they're going to go to jail,” said MHP Capt. Jim Kitchin.

While no festival-related DUI accidents happened last year, two years ago a Missoula man and an 8 year-old boy both died in a drunk driving accident.

The event runs through Sunday at the Rock Creek Lodge.
