Spokane Crew Cleans Up Chemical Spill Near DeBorgia

Posted: Updated:
MINERAL COUNTY -

Mineral county officials call in a team from Spokane to clean up a hazardous chemical spill on I-90.

Mineral County Disaster and Emergency Services director George Gupton confirms that the off ramp at mile marker 19 near the DeBorgia exit was closed because of the toxic spill.

He says a trailer was carrying 55-gallon drums of a highly flammable product.

The driver apparently had engine troubles and pulled over, and that's when the leak was discovered.

Thursday and the exit has reopened. Some of the chemicals did go into the soil so clean up will take several hours.

The St. Regis Fire Department was also on the scene and the investigation is still going on.

The closure does not effect I-90 traffic.
