COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

"The Coeur d'Alene Tribe has a long history of working on social rights issues in the area," says Coeur d'Alene Tribe Public Relations Director, Heather Keen.

On Monday the tribe, along with Coeur d'Alene Casino management made the decision to cancel the Ted Nugent concert set to kick off at the casino this August, saying the rock star is known to make racially biased comments.

"Given Mr. Nugent's past, it was a pretty stark contradiction and the Tribal Council was pretty adamant that we wouldn't want our venue to be used to perpetuate those types of messages," said Keen.

Many in the tribe agree with the decision, however, there are many in the area that are upset, saying it's infringing on the rocker's freedom of speech.

For those that bought tickets, the casino is working to offer refunds.

KING 5 in Seattle is reporting that Nugent's upcoming concerts at the Emerald Queen Casino have been canceled as well.
