Pictograph Cave, Rimrock Road Shooting Suspect Appears in Court

Posted: Updated:

The suspect in two shootings and a morning road rage incident appears in court.

Kelly Megard, 52, is charged with attempted deliberate homicide and three counts of criminal endangerment.

Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder confirmed Megard has been connected to a third road rage incident from Tuesday morning. Wednesday, Billings police linked the two shootings to Megard. Shortly before 1 pm Tuesday, Billings Police say a man began following and then shooting at a woman driving a car with her two kids. About an hour later, Yellowstone County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at Pictograph Cave State Park, seeing a man firing multiple shots at a bush.

Police connected the two because the car matched the description of the shooting on Rimrock Road near Rocky Mountain College. Investigators say Megard did not know the victims in the vehicle and said he used meth two days before the shooting incidents. Officers say Megard confessed to shooting at someone on Rimrock Road, and said he thought he was being followed.

Judge Pedro Hernandez set Megard’s bond at $500,000.
