KENNEWICK, WA - The Gesa Carousel of Dreams celebrates yet another milestone. Crews placed the custom made weathervane on top of the building on Friday morning.

It was a first for the Kennewick Fire Department, called out to help put the carousel weathervane on top of the cupola. A Hermiston Artist, Chris Huffman, hand pounded the 14-gauge cold rolled steel piece. It weighs more than 200 pounds and is about five feet tall. You can see it all the way from Highway 395.

While this is cause for celebration, we look ahead to another milestone that keeps moving back. Opening day is now expected to be sometime next month.

"It's just endless detail. Our board has chosen to do this thing right or we're not going to do it at all. For example, the guy creating this carousel weathervane, it took him three months instead of the one month he thought. So be it, look at it. It's absolutely stunning. We're going to make it worth their while," said Director Eric Van Winkle.

Right now, crews are finishing up the final touches like landscaping, flooring and countertops. After more than a decade of work to build the carousel opening day is now expected to be in either mid-August or early September.
