Independence Day in Laurel

Posted: Updated:
LAUREL - Simply put -- Laurel was a very, very busy town On July Fourth.

Following the Chief Joseph's Run and the kiddie parade, thousands of people lined Main Street for the grand parade, which featured a wide variety of floats.

"There's a lot more people than there was last year and the year before that," said 12-year-old Alex Good. "I think it's really cool, and they've gotten better stuff."

After the parade, Thompson Park featured more entertainment. The Laurel Chamber of Commerce said there are more food vendors and merchandise booths than ever before.

A graffiti artist, who sells paintings and hats, traveled from Minnesota for his first Fourth of July in Laurel. Shantam Ambesh found out about Laurel's Independence Day celebrations on the internet, and he was very excited to see the legendary fireworks.

"Oh I am," he said. "That sounds way cool, I am really excited to see the fireworks show!"

There were a variety of crazy costumes around town as well, including a Captain America sighting.

"The thing that the Fourth of July and superheroes have in common are the words: Boom! Pow! Bang! and fighting for freedom, and liberty, and dramatic music," said Mack Carpenter in his authentic Avengers costume.

The booths and vendors stayed open until the fireworks started firing off after 10 PM
