Big Sky High Employees Scan Parking Lot after Syringe Found

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA - Big Sky High School officials said they're closely monitoring their property after a young boy stuck himself with a syringe he found in the school parking lot last week.

Missoula sheriff's officials said the boy, who attends the nearby Fort Courage Child Care, found the syringe and accidentally stuck himself with it.

Big Sky Assistant Principal Jennifer Courtney said school employees immediately scanned the area and didn't find anything during their search.

Courtney said they've had no previous reports of syringes or other instruments found on school grounds.

"Safety and security for our students and staff is our top priority, so we'll continue to be diligent about taking care of our property and making sure that everyone is safe when they're using our facilities," she said.

Even though school's out for the summer, Courtney said maintenance crews are working on the grounds and inside the building, and are constantly monitoring the area.

Sheriff's officials said last week the boy was okay, and his parents were going to have the syringe tested at a private lab.

Fort Courage employees said they are unable to comment on the incident.
