Josh Huestis Talks About Being Drafted by OKC Thunder

Posted: Updated:

The Following is a story from Blake Arthur:"With the 29th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder select Josh Huestis, from Stanford University," said Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner on draft night.

From CMR to Stanford and now to the NBA. Josh Huestis' dream of playing professional basketball has come true.

"This is something that I've dreamt about since I was a little kid. This has always been my dream. I've spent countless hours in the gym and sacrificed so much to have this opportunity," said Josh Huestis.

Nobody knows that more than his mom who was right by Josh's side during his journey. So while many 'experts' had him pegged as a second round pick, the person that knows him best always knew he had first round potential.

"I can't believe, but I know it because he worked so hard from the time he was this big. On the wall in the bedroom from the time he was little - play in the 7th grade, start at CMR, win a state championship, play Division 1, and play in the NBA was the last one," said Bonnie Huestis, Josh's mother.

When the Thunder selected him 29th overall Huestis became the first Montanan ever selected in the first round, and he's proud to represent his home state.

"Montana is who I am. It always will be. It's made me who I am today and just the fact that I have all these people behind me is incredible. A lot of people don't get support like this and I'm so blessed that I get to," said Huestis.

The wall in his room would say that Huestis' journey has reached the ultimate destination. But he says his journey has just begun.

"I've got so much work I still need to to do to contribute and I'm going to be a guy that's always in the gym doing everything I can and trust me, this is just the beginning," said Huestis.

Huestis wore number 34 at CMR, number 24 at Stanford, and he'll wear number 14 with the Thunder. But, it would be hard to argue that 29 isn't his favorite number now after making history with it last night.
