NBCRightNow.com – Governor Jay Inslee explained Tuesday in a press conference that our children’s safety is a top priority as recreational marijuana shops prepare to open.

Governor Inslee invited Attorney General Bob Ferguson and representatives from the state liquor control board, health department and state patrol to discuss how they will crack down on any violators of marijuana laws. The governor called this an all hands on deck effort to let people know that kids are off limits when it comes to pot sales.

Only people over 21 will be allowed to purchase the drug, but with legalization marijuana is more accessible. Just like we have talks about underage drinking, the governor believes those same talks will have to start with pot.

"If the result of this initiative is that more parents become inspired to talk to their children about this, that's going to be a healthy outcome," said Governor Inslee.

The phrase “you drive high...you get a DUI” was also brought up. State patrol officers have been trained to spot impaired drivers.

In addition, when asked whether revenue from marijuana sales would be shared with the individual cities and counties the governor explained he believes the taxes collected will not even come close to fixing the state's deficit.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the great parts about living in Spokane, is if you head out of town in any direction, you're going to run into some beautiful farm land. I grew up south of Spokane, near Plaza, and one of my favorite things to do was to sit on the porch at night and stare south towards Rosalia at all of the rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley and peas.
