Butte Miners Ready for Tough Conference Stretch

Posted: Updated:

This weekend the Butte Miners have two huge conference games, in a home-and-home series with the Dillon Cubs.

So far so good for the Miners in conference, currently they're 6-1.

But with Dillon coming up, the season only gets tougher.

"We haven't played the best conference teams yet,” said head coach Jeff LaProwse. “I'm going to be honest about that. We need to beat the Dillon's, we need to beat the Belgrade's, we need to beat the Gallatin Valleys to be one of the better teams in the conference. We know that, and we're looking forward to seeing where we stack up against those teams."

"I think we're doing okay. We're right where we want to be,” said catcher Tyler Harney. “We're 6-1 in conference right now. We'll find out this week and the rest of the season how good we're really going to be. We have some tough teams coming up. So I think we'll find out what we're made of pretty soon."

With the Cubs on tap for the weekend, the Mining City boys know they need a good start to their games.

Pitching has been a positive for the team, so that leaves the pressure on the bats.

"As the game goes on we start hitting the ball better,” said second baseman, Nate LaProwse. “We don't usually start off the game like we should, but in the later innings we start hitting the ball like we should."

The Miners major goal is making it to the state tournament.

This weekend they'll begin their road with two conference games.

"Conference games are always the most important thing, that's why you play in a conference,” said Coach LaProwse. “We want to finish at the top or at the top portion of the conference, that way going into the district tournament we'll have an easier road getting to where we want to be, which is in the state tournament."
