Glacier National Park Reports Rain, Snow and Closures

Posted: Updated:
WEST GLACIER -

Glacier National Park takes a beating from rain and even snow.

Standing water has shut down the Saint Mary campground, the road to Kintla Lake at the head of Big Prairie, and the Red Eagle Trailhead.

No one has been evacuated yet, but park rangers are planning for the worst, and they've put out sandbags around the offices on the east side.

As for the higher up spots, Sperry Chalet has gotten more than a foot of snow, and plow crews have been called off for the day.

"Weather in northwest Montana and weather in Glacier can be so variable, but it's always somewhat exciting, somewhat wow, somewhat challenging to get this kind of weather this time of year," said Denise Germann, a spokeswoman for the Park.

Officials say it would be best just to stay out of the North Fork for now.

The Park posts any alerts or warnings online.
