Firefighters Use Fire Damaged Home For Training Exercise

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Missoula Rural firefighters made use of a house, damaged in a fire more than a year ago on Thursday. A live fire training took place at a home off Old Grant Creek Road Thursday afternoon.

During the training, firefighters battled several different controlled fires throughout the home. Missoula Rural Fire District Chief Bill Colwell said the district is lucky to find a structure to use for these training's. He said they happen about once or twice a year.

"It's very, very important for our firefighters to have experience with their equipment inside of the building, and understanding the effectiveness of hose streams, water application, and working and learning fire removal," Colwell said.

One person lived in the home in March of last year when a fire started outside the home and quickly spread through it. No one was hurt.
