SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - An elderly man was killed in a car crash Thursday afternoon north of Spokane Valley.

Deputy Craig Chamberlin told KHQ the man was hauling a horse in a trail on N. Forker, just north of Bigelow Gulch, when he drove off the road. Emergency crews responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified.

The horse that was in the trailer was not injured during the collision.

Investigators with the Sheriff's Office are trying to determine exactly why the man drove off the road.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office will identify the man and determine a cause of death, most likely later this week.
