Tri-Cities Fever RB Keithon Flemming Earns IFL Player of the Week Honor

Posted: Updated:
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 16.

Offensive Players of the Week: Keithon Flemming (RB, Tri-Cities Fever)

The Tri-Cities Fever (7-6) completed the season sweep of the Wyoming Cavalry (1-13) with a 64-35 victory on Friday night.  With the win, the Fever are one of the hottest teams in the league having now won four straight, and six of their last seven games.  A big part of the team’s turnaround has been the play of RB Keithon Flemming (5’9, 200 lbs./West Texas A&M).  For the second time in three weeks, Flemming has been named Offensive Player of the Week.  During the game, Flemming carried the ball 14 times for 116 yards and 5 TDs.  Flemming currently ranks 3rd in the IFL with 527 rushing yards and T-1st with 17 rushing TDs.  The hot streak happened just a little too late for the Fever, however, a strong finish to the season should build momentum heading into the offseason.  The Fever conclude their 2014 season with a home matchup against the Colorado Ice this weekend.

Honorable Mention:
Samuel Charles (WR, Wyoming Cavalry)
Donald Fusilier (WR, Colorado Ice)
Nathan Wara (QB, Green Bay Blizzard)
Steven Whitehead (WR, Tri-Cities Fever)

Defensive Player of the Week: Tyler Knight (LB, Sioux Falls Storm)

The Sioux Falls Storm (13-0) squeaked past the Texas Revolution (3-10) with a come from behind 34-29 victory on Saturday night.  The win extended the Storm’s home winning streak to 40 games and kept the team’s undefeated season alive.  Playing without a few key starters on offense, Sioux Falls’ defense answered the call and led the team to victory.  Reigning IFL Defensive Player of the Year, Tyler Knight (6’0, 225 lbs./Mississippi Valley State), earned his 3rd Defensive Player of the Week honor in 2014.  For the game, Knight registered 16 tackles and 2.5 sacks.  Knight leads the IFL in tackles (140) and tackles for loss (18.5).  He also ranks 2nd with 8.5 sacks.  Unfortunately for the Storm, Knight exited the game late in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury.  If Knight were to miss any time it would be a big loss for the Storm’s vaunted defensive unit.  The Storm finish up the regular season on the road against the Cedar Rapids Titans in Week 17.

Honorable Mention:
James Ackel (DB, Green Bay Blizzard)
Jereme Green (DB, Cedar Rapids Titans)
Frankie Solomon Jr. (DB, Texas Revolution)
Joe Thornton (LB, Colorado Ice)

Special Teams Player of the Week: Dontrell Johnson (KR, Green Bay Blizzard)

Despite a 1-12 record, the Green Bay Blizzard are playing some of the best football in the IFL over the past two weeks of the season.  In Week 15 the team pulled off the biggest upset in 2014, knocking off the playoff bound Cedar Rapids Titans, 59-40.  On Saturday night, the Blizzard gave the Colorado Ice (10-3) all that they could handle, falling just short, 49-47.  Kick Returner Dontrell Johnson (5’9, 185 lbs./Murray State) turned in another solid performance for Green Bay, earning his 2nd Special Teams Player of the Week award in 2014.  For the game, he covered 90 yards on 5 kickoff returns including a 45-yard TD in the first quarter, adding 8 tackles on defense.  There is no quit in this young Blizzard squad and the team in beginning to jell under Head Coach Tommie Williams.  They hope to finish the season on a high note at home against the Bemidji Axemen this weekend.

Ryan Balentine (KR, Bemidji Axemen)

Harry Peoples (KR, Tri-Cities Fever)
Brian Smith (KR, Wyoming Cavalry)
