SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.- KHQ spoke with one of the men involved with what Spokane County Sheriff's deputies are calling a stabbing, and he tells a very different story of how the events of Tuesday night played out. It happened around 8:45 Tuesday night at a home near 32nd and Best. The man we spoke with says two men showed up at his home, riding bicycles. One of those men was a former neighbor, upset because he'd given the homeowner's girlfriend a bicycle and didn't feel compensated.

The homeowner says he asked the two men to go away, and they did at first. They returned once and were sent away, then returned a third time and actually entered the homeowner's home, without his permission. He tells KHQ that's when he grabbed the nearest weapon he could find, a golf club. He tried hitting his former neighbor with the golf club, but that person deflected the blow, breaking the golf club in the process.

The homeowner says he then tried hitting a second time, with a now broken golf club, and the broken point cut his former neighbor. The former neighbor was then taken to the hospital with a serious, but not life-threatening, injury. As for the second person, the homeowner says he took off when he saw the golf club come out. Sheriff's detectives are still looking for that second man now.

The homeowner says he has talked with detectives and is not particularly worried that he'll be arrested or face any kind of charges. He says the detectives told him that since that attack happened inside the home, this appears to be a pretty clear case of a man defending his property, his family, and himself.

One man is in critical condition and deputies are searching for another man involved in an fight that led to a stabbing Tuesday night.

Deputy Craig Chamberlin told KHQ that they received a call about a stabbing near 32nd and Best, just east of Pines Road at around 8:45pm. When they arrived they found one man with serious injuries.

Chamberlin said the incident began when two men on bicycles showed up to a home in the area asking for a girl who they believed knew something about another bicycle. When the man at the home told them the girl they were looking for wasn't there, they left, but returned three times. On the third time, the homeowner came to the door armed with a golf club and a fight ensued. At some point during the fight, the golf club broke, and one of the men on the bikes was stabbed with the broken golf club. He was taken to the hospital for surgery and at last update, is in critical condition.

Deputies are searching for the second man who was riding a bike.

At this point, the homeowner is not under arrest as deputies are working to determine if the stabbing was in self-defense.
