Tri-City Americans Name Pellerin as New Associate Coach

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WATri-City Americans Governor & General Manager Bob Tory announced Tuesday that the club has named Brian Pellerin as the team’s new associate coach for the upcoming 2014-15 season.  Additionally, Tory announced that former assistant coach Dan Price has chosen to explore other opportunities and will not be returning to the team next season.

Pellerin, a native of Hinton, Alberta, joins the Americans after serving as the Head Coach of the Midget Prep team at the Okanagan Hockey Academy for the past three seasons.  After wrapping up a 12-year playing career, Pellerin got into coaching full-time in 2003-04 as an assistant with the Central Hockey League’s Amarillo Gorillas.  The next season, he joined the Portland Winterhawks, serving as an assistant for four seasons, three of them working under current Tri-City head coach, Mike Williamson.  Pellerin got his first head coaching job midway through the 2008-09 season, returning to Amarillo to take over the reins of the Gorillas.  Then, following the 2009-10 campaign, Pellerin took an assistant coaching job with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage.

“Brian brings a wealth of coaching experience to our team, having coached in the WHL, CHL, AHL and at the Okanagan Hockey Academy, as well as having played for some very successful WHL and NHL coaches,” explained Tory.

Tory continued by saying that, “I’ve known Brian since 1987 when he was a player with the Prince Albert Raiders.  He was a hard-nosed, competitive player, who did whatever was necessary for his team’s success.  He will bring these same leadership qualities to our coaching staff.”

As a player, Pellerin got his start with the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders in 1987-88.  He went on to appear in 243 WHL games over 4 seasons, all with the Raiders, totaling 75 goals, 150 points and 727 penalty minutes.  As part of his 12-year playing career, Pellerin also played in 360 IHL games, including stops in Peoria, Houston and Chicago, as well as 169 WPHL games and 114 CHL games.  Pellerin also spent 2 season playing overseas with Bracknell of the British Ice Hockey Superleague.
