Police Release Names Of Children Found Dead Inside Kennewick Home

UPDATE: KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - Kennewick Police have released the names of two children found shot to death Monday in their home.

The children were identified Tuesday as 16-year-old Kaitlin Austin and 12-year-old Ethan Austin, who were sister and brother.

Andrew Austin found the children when he came home Monday. Andrew Austin is the boy's biological father and the girl's stepfather.

An autopsy is scheduled for both on Wednesday.

Investigators continue to canvass the neighborhood, looking for anyone who may have seen or heard what happened.

Investigators say four people were living in the house, the two children and the mother and father.

KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick Police are investigating after two kids were found dead by their step-dad at their home on the 8600 block of West Third Avenue Monday.

Police tell NBC Right Now when they got to the home around 5:00 P.M. Monday, they found the bodies of a 16-year-old girl and 12 year-old boy inside the home with a handgun found nearby. Between the kids, officers say there were multiple gun shots wounds.

However, it has not been made clear if one or both of the children suffered multiple gun shots.

Right now, police are interviewing family members and canvasing the neighborhood  to see if neighbors saw anything out of the ordinary.

"There was a hand gun found at the scene and right now we don't know what all happened but we are investigating, we're waiting for the WSP crime lab to arrive to help is process the scene, we're talking to neighbors to see what they may have heard or seen this afternoon but right now it is a tragedy," Sgt. Ken Lattin of the Kennewick Police Department explained.

Police say there are no suspects right now and no signs of forced entry into the house. Investigators will be at the home for the rest of the night, hoping to get some answers.
