Bozeman Senior Preps for Graduation

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN - Bozeman High School's graduation this weekend will be one for the books, not only is one of the school's largest senior classes crossing the stage, but for the first time in school history the commencement will take place outdoors.

The school moved it to a new location, Bozeman High School football stadium, since its usual venue, the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, is under construction.

"As a senior this year it's been a really good experience and I'm sure not only me is looking forward to it and it can't come soon enough," says graduating senior Brandon Keim.

Life after high school will take Keim to Rocky Mountain College in Billings, where he received a football scholarship to play offensive lineman.

Some of Keim's best memories from high school, were on the field with the Bozeman Hawks.

"My high school experience is great the community is great, really nice, really supportive of the whole entire high school. I played basketball and football for the Hawks this last year we won state championship for football and that was a great experience, I'll probably remember that for the rest of my life," Keim said.

Principal Kevin Conwell says Keim is one of many students whose success in school will carry them farther than graduation.

"It's really been a remarkable class. There have really been a lot of accolades," Conwell said.

This year, Bozeman High School boasts 14 seniors with perfect 4.0 grade point averages and several who have receives prestigious academic, athletic and music scholarships and awards.

Conwell, who is wrapping up his first school year as Bozeman High's principal, says with a community as supportive of education as Bozeman, it's not surprising the senior class has done so well this year.

"Bozeman is bigger there are a lot more opportunities for students. I love how the community is so supportive of education, you can just feel it in the schools. And that just projects a positive attitude, students are highly motivated, families are highly motivated and it just makes for a great situation," Conwell said.

For Keim, one of the hardest parts will be leaving home. But he hopes after pursuing degrees in business and his passion of photography, he can come back to the Valley.

"I guess this is kind of a new beginning not living with the parents and the family, definitely dorm room experience will be different. I'm really looking forward to just figuring out my life, I guess it's a new step, to get my self out there and everything there is to do, sports photography and everything," Keim said.

Bozeman High School graduation takes place at noon Sunday at the high school football stadium.

If it should rain, Conwell says the ceremony will be re-located to the Belgrade event center.
