Ravalli Co. Voters Oust Two Commissioners

MISSOULA -

Voters in Ravalli County ousted two members of the county commission in the wake of controversy surrounding the county.

Incumbent commissioners Suzy Foss and Ron Stoltz lost their republican primary races. Voters also rejected an attempt by County Treasurer Valerie Stamey to remain in office. This all comes after Stamey was suspended with pay in January for falling months behind in depositing money and providing financial reports.

She then accused county commissioners of corruption. Ray Hawk, who won the republican primary over Stoltz, said he thinks voters are ready for something new.

"The county was ready for new commissioners. Valerie Stamey or the treasurer debacle had a lot to do with it, the controversy over the last three years had a lot to do. It had everything to do with what went on yesterday," Hawk said.

Incumbent commissioner Jeff Burrows defeated his challenger and advances to the general election.
