Missoula Counting Election Officials Make Changes For Voters

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA - Voters are seeing some changes at the Missoula County Fairgrounds this election day.

With the primary having a low voter turn-out, election officials used Tuesday as a "dress rehearsal" for the November General Election. After voters had to deal with long lines in the 2010 and 2012 federal elections, officials said they wanted to change the set-up to make things easier for voters.

"We have a numbering system, so people know how long the wait is going to be, we're also triaging types of problems people experience when they're voting absentee or registering to vote election day, so they're shortening the amount of time they have to spend here on that day. You know, everyone's busy, so they can vote, get on their way and get their sticker," said Anne Hughes the Communications and Project Manager.

At last check, 15,000 absentee ballots were returned out of 24,000 sent out in Missoula County. A drive-thru is also set up tonight at the fairgrounds to make it easier to return ballots. That will be open until 8 p.m., when ballots are due.

ABC FOX Montana will have a reporter live at the Missoula County Fairgrounds for all of the latest election results beginning on the Fox Montana News at 9.
