Couple Retires After Almost 80 Combined Years In School

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL - Two Kalispell teachers who met on the job retire after almost 80 combined years on the job.

In the late seventies, Alison met Paul half way through the year at Russell school. She was a special education teacher, and he was filling in for a fourth grade teacher who was getting married.

They eventually got married and have since worked at several Kalispell schools.

For the past 16 years, Alison has been a counselor at Elrod, and Paul has been a physical education teacher at Peterson for the last 19 years.

Today, the Schmaltz's get recognized almost everywhere they go.

"It's always one of the pluses about teaching," said Paul.

"It's always fun for me to have people, young people, rush up and say how Paul was their favorite teacher forever," said Alison.

Although they plan to stay in Kalispell, they are thinking about spending some time with friends down in Phoenix and Palm Springs.
