VA Montana HCS Director to Retire at the End of June

MISSOULA -

The director of the VA Montana Health Care System announced her retirement after 18 months on the job.

VA officials said in a statement on Thursday that Christine Gregory will step down at the end of June.

The statement said that Gregory is wanting to spend more time with her family.

Associate Director Johnny Ginnity will serve as the acting director while a new director is selected.

Gregory's announcement to retire comes after the VA Inspector General released an interim report on Wednesday that showed Arizona veterans were forced to wait 115 days before receiving their first appointment. That is 91 days longer than previously reported.

The IG is investigating 26 VA facilities nationwide, following allegations that several veterans died while awaiting treatment and secret waiting lists were created to hide those delays.

It is not know if Gregory's retirement is related to the problems.
