Sen. Tester's Renewable Energy Bill to Streamline Permitting

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA - Senator Jon Tester held a listening session on a bill to streamline renewable energy projects on public lands in Montana.

Senator Tester's bipartisan bill is called the Public Land Renewable Energy Development Act.

It would allow solar and wind projects to go through a similar permitting process as traditional energy resources.

The bill would return a portion of royalty payments to local communities and create more jobs.

"We have incredible renewable energy resources here, you know the Bakken is doing great things as far as pumping out energy, but we must continue to develop our renewables because it makes the country more energy secure and it's just the right thing to do," Senator Tester said.

A variety of Montana stakeholders attended the listening session at the Missoula Public Library.

Montana is ranked third in the nation for wind resource potential.
