CrimeTracker: Smash & Grab Car Prowlers Hit Centennial Trail

Posted: Updated:

KHQ.COM - Car prowlers are breaking into vehicles parked along Centennial Trail.  The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says they’re smashing through windows of cars parked at trailheads from Spokane all the way to the state line. The Sheriff’s Office says this is nothing new. Thieves hit these vehicles every year when the weather brings hikers to the trail. And, every year the Sheriff’s Office reminds people to take their valuables out of their vehicle when they park it.

Deputy Craig Chamberlin says the best way to protect yourself is to leave everything at home. Bring along your license, but don’t bring your entire wallet if you’re going to have to leave it in your vehicle. If there are valuables inside your car, lock them in the trunk. Also, remember that it’s not just big-ticket items that will attract a thief. Deputy Craig says that even loose change in the cup holder and CDs on the floor of your vehicle are enough to draw a thief in and prompt them to bust into your car.

If you are victimized, you can report the crime to Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
