After a multi-agency search and rescue, a California hiker is recovering upon injuring his leg west of Victor.
Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman said that about 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, sheriff's deputies and members of the Ravalli County Search and Rescue team responded to the Bear Creek Overlook for an injured and lost hiker.
The 50-year-old man was hiking alone when he left the Bear Creek Overlook Trail and injured his leg while crossing a rocky slope south.
Rescuers tracked him using the GPS coordinates from his 9-1-1 cell phone call.
A Medstar helicopter spotted the man from the air.
Then, deputies and search and rescuers hiked in and helped treat his wounds until a Malmstrom Air Force Base chopper took him to a Missoula hospital.
