Volunteers Perform Memorial Services

Posted: Updated:
BIGFORK - Men and women volunteer their time across the Flathead to pay tribute to our veterans.

The United Veterans of the Flathead Valley is a nonprofit that includes members from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans of America, the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, and the National Guard.

About 25 of the United Vets are part of the Honor Guard.

Columbia Falls all the way down to Bigfork got to hear the sounds of the 21 gun salute, Taps, and stories of those who have passed thanks to the Honor Guard.

"The defense of this country relies on the shoulders of the veterans, and it's very important that we recognize their service to our country," said Ward Marshall, a retired army colonel and a member of the Honor Guard.

They perform services for upwards of 60 vets every year.
