SUNNYSIDE, WA - Sunnyside Community Hospital is once again expanding its services.

The only Sleep Disorders Center in the Lower Valley is now open to the public.

A lot of people said they're really excited about it because it means community members who struggle with sleep in the Lower Valley no longer have to drive to Yakima or the Tri-Cities to get care.

Sleep Medicine Specialist. Dr. Bryan I. Santiago also said many local sleep centers are booked three months in advance and this will open up more resources.

Dr. Santiago said getting more sleep will improve the community's health and overall well-being.

The hospital said part of their mission is to reduce Yakima's high obesity rate.

"We are here to help the community improve the quality of life through quality sleep," said Dr. Santiago.

According to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 50 to 70 million people nationwide have a sleep disorder. Common sleep disorders include sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome and insomnia.
