PASCO, WA - Following a welfare check, officers discovered Monique Williams and Aaron Newport dead in a home on Redonda Drive in West Pasco. The Franklin County Prosecutor, deputy coroner and Pasco Police confirmed Thursday it was a domestic violence murder-suicide.

"While the investigation is ongoing, initial information indicates that Monique was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. Aaron Newport appears to have died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head," said prosecutor Shawn Sant.

36-year-old Aaron Newport and 28-year-old Monique Williams were found dead side by side on the bed in the master bedroom of Williams' home on Monday. The coroner said the shootings happened sometime Saturday morning. It also appears Monique had some defensive wounds, meaning she likely fought back. She was shot once in the head. Newport appears to have then shot himself in the head.

Investigators found a semi-automatic handgun at the scene and it looks like Newport broke in to the house.

"Aaron Newport appears to have gained entry into the home through a pet door in the back yard. There is no evidence suggesting any other persons were involved in this crime," said Sant.

The investigation is ongoing. Williams' death is now classified as a domestic violence homicide and Newport's is considered a suicide. The two were in a relationship at one point but had broken up. Whether Newport went to Williams' house with the intent to kill her is still not known. The investigation should wrap up in a couple of months.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the great parts about living in Spokane, is if you head out of town in any direction, you're going to run into some beautiful farm land. I grew up south of Spokane, near Plaza, and one of my favorite things to do was to sit on the porch at night and stare south towards Rosalia at all of the rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley and peas.
