So Good: Butte Central's Theresa Piazzola

Posted: Updated:

The Butte Central softball team is heading into divisional's this weekend winning their last nine out of ten games.

The team led by four seniors couldn't feel any more confident.

But the team's success has also come from the help of some underclassmen, including their star pitcher.

We take a look at what makes one maroon so good.

Heading into the postseason the Butte Central Maroons are 14-6.

While they've hit the ball well, they've seen a lot of their success come from sophomore pitcher Theresa Piazzola.

"I felt like last year I had more pressure on me because basically our whole infield and a couple outfielders were all seniors,” Piazzola said. “So last year I felt even more pressure than I do this year. This year I can kind of more relax so it's not as hard."

Piazzola has been more than relaxed in the circle.

At times this year she has struck out nearly 15 batters in a game, while striking out the first nine.

"Theresa is a huge part of our team,” Head Coach Kelci Thatcher said. “Going from this year to last year, she's made growth in tremendous amounts. She dominates the mound now. She's not a timid little freshman girl anymore."

"She brings a lot of confidence to the team, because we can rely on her,” said senior Mikayla Boggs. “We know she's going to go in there and do the best she can. We have so much confidence in her that it helps us play."

Piazzola can also do it at the plate.

Currently she leads the team, batting .600 on the year.

"Theresa is a competitor and she always comes to play,” Coach Thatcher said. “So it's nice, from a coaches standpoint, that you never have to worry about trying to find tools to motivate her, because she just naturally brings it and has the ability to motivate all the rest of her teammates."

"It's important just to keep a good mindset and always stay positive no matter what team you're playing,” said Piazzola. “Just have confidence."
