Suspect In Nine Mile Falls SWAT Standoff To Make First Court Appearance

UPDATE: NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. - The man who triggered a SWAT standoff at a home in Nine Mile Falls, 43-year-old Blaze Smith, will make his first appearance in court on Monday. Law enforcement was attempting to recover a stolen vehicle when Smith decided to barricade himself inside a home.

NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. - Spokane Police safely arrest a suspect in possession of a stolen vehicle after he barricaded himself in a home in Nine Mile Falls. Blaze Smith (43) was arrested and will be booked into the Spokane County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and warrants.

Saturday morning, at approximately 4:30 am, Spokane Police officers were working to recover a reported stolen vehicle. They were able to track the vehicle to residence in the 13000 block of W. Pine Bluff Rd. in Nine Mile Falls. The driver of the stolen vehicle, identified as 43-year-old Blaze E. Smith, barricaded himself inside the residence.

Officers repeatedly attempted to contact Smith. He did not comply with directives to exit the home peacefully and negotiators as well as SWAT were called to the location.

Negotiators and SWAT worked for hours to contact Smith and place him safely and peacefully under arrest. A search warrant was obtained and a chemical agent was released into the home. Smith peacefully surrendered and was placed under arrest.

Blaze Smith will be booked into the Spokane County Jail for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and other warrants.
