Edgerton Students Stock Buffalohead Park Pond

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL - Four hundred more Westslope Cutthroat trout swim in Buffalohead Park Pond.

About 100 kids from Edgerton Elementary helped FWP stock the pond with native fish.

The two-year-old trout came from the Washoe hatchery in Anaconda. They weighed about a half pound each and it was heavy lifting for some of the kids, but without them it would have been a much longer job.

Each year FWP has to stock the water since the fish can't reproduce in such a small, isolated pond.

Fish culture specialist Taylor Lipscomb says the lesson here is don't put fish into a pond without FWP present.

"They're helping out a lot, but they also get a firsthand taste of what it takes to stock a lake," said Lipscomb.

Anyone 15 and older can't keep what they catch in Buffalohead Park Pond.
