Indoor Shrimp Facility Hits Roadblocks

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL - Plans for an indoor shrimp facility have hit some roadblocks.

Kalispell got a building permit application for West Center Street.

The guy behind the project wants to see if it's possible to raise shrimp indoors in an old warehouse downtown, and then sell them around the Valley.

The place is so old that it was built without any sidewalks, handicap accessibility, or parking lot, so the submitter and the building's owner have some work ahead if the plan is going to get off the ground.

"Reusing old buildings, especially buildings that have a history and still have some vitality to them is great. The difficulty is when we go in a piece at a time and try to take a small part of a building and bring it up to code," explained Thomas Jentz, the Kalispell planning director.

Jentz says he also just got a proposal for a Burger King south of the old Outlaw Inn. He expects building of the fast food chain to start sometime this summer.
