SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs announced today the signing of 16-year-old-to-be prospect Kailer Yamamoto. Yamamoto joins his older brother Keanu on the Chiefs, and they will become the first pair of Spokane-native siblings to play for the local club at the same time.

“I’m really excited to sign with the Chiefs,” Yamamoto said. “It’s a dream come true to play in the WHL and I can’t wait to play with (Keanu) again.”

“It is very exciting for our organization that the Yamamoto brothers are able to play Major Junior hockey together in Spokane for the Chiefs,” General Manager Tim Speltz added. “Keanu and Kailer have worked very hard to earn this opportunity.

“It’s not often that local players play at this level, let alone local brothers. It is excellent for our city to see them follow in the footsteps of other local products Derek Ryan, Tyler Johnson and Tanner Mort.”

Kailer Yamamoto was a 5th Round (105th Overall) WHL Bantam Draft selection for the Chiefs in 2013 and spent the past season with the Los Angeles Junior Kings (U16), scoring 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 34 games. He was an alternate captain for the Kings.

Keanu Yamamoto just completed his rookie season with the Chiefs, scoring 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 57 games played. He finished the regular season strong, scoring 7 goals and 8 assists in the final two months of the season, including two game-winning goals.

Season Ticket Packages for the Chiefs' 2014-15 regular season are on sale now. Visit the Chiefs' Ticket Office in-person or call an Account Executive at (509) 535-PUCK for more information.
