PULLMAN, Wash. – Nyaires (Ny-air-ees) ‘Ny’ Redding (6-2, 180, Guard, Solon, Ohio/Westwind Prep-Ariz.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Washington State University men’s basketball team beginning with the 2014-15 season, head coach Ernie Kent announced Tuesday.

“Our system requires us to have very heady guard play and we are continuing to put together a group that we think is going to be outstanding for the future of Washington State basketball,” Kent said. “In Ny we have a player that is not only smart, but also is very skilled on both ends of the floor.”

During the 2013-14 season at Westwind Prep in Phoenix, Ariz., Redding averaged 29.8 points, 2.1 steals and 8.7 assists per game, while shooting 53 percent from the field and 89 percent from the free throw line. He was named first team all-State, tournament MVP and defensive player of the year, as well as the team’s captain. Redding compiled five 40-point games in his year at Westwind Prep, breaking former Westwind standout and current Cougar, Que Johnson’s record of 40-point games.

Redding joins a signing class that includes fellow incoming freshmen Jackie Davis (6-3, 195, G, Long Beach, Calif./Rolling Hills Prep School) and Tramaine Isabell (6-1, 170, G, Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS), as well as junior college-transfer Aaron Cheatum (6-7, 240, F, Moreno Valley, Calif./East Los Angeles College).
