Ballots Due For Missoula Rural Fire District Election

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Folks living in the Missoula Rural Fire District have until Tuesday night to vote on a $440,000 mill levy to fund six new firefighter positions. Rural fire officials said the levy would allow the district to have at least two full-time firefighter EMT's to respond to calls during peak call hours.

The six firefighter positions, which are currently filled, were previously funded by a federal grant that will expire in September. The mill levy would increase taxes by $26.29 per year on a home valued at $200,000. Voters rejected an attempt at the last mill levy increase in 2007.

Missoula Rural firefighters haven't seen a levy increase approved in 22 years. Voters have until 8 p.m. Tuesday night to return ballots that you received in the mail to several locations around Missoula.

For a list of drop-off locations, head to the Missoula County Office of Elections.
