On Deck 9 Benefits MT Skateparks

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA - A skateboard art auction kicks off in Missoula and benefits the Montana Skatepark Association.

The live auction of artfully crafted skateboard decks is called "On Deck 9."

Organizers send out blank decks to artists across the U.S., who return them with their own design.

They're auctioned off, and the proceeds go towards skatepark projects across the state.

Organizers said skateparks provide kids a great activity in rural communities.

Chris Bacon, On Deck 9, said, "It provides them with a source of athleticism, and exercise, but it's also really fun and challenging, there are really a lot of benefits to having a skatepark in your community."

The auction runs from 5 - 10 p.m. on Friday at The Brink Gallery on Front Street in downtown Missoula.

The decks will be on display throughout this month.
