SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs announced today the acquisition of 19-year-old goaltender Alex Moodie from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a future draft selection.

“Acquiring Alex does a few things for our organization,” said Chiefs’ General Manager Tim Speltz. “It strengthens our depth at the goaltending position and also creates a healthy competition at that position moving into 2014-2015.

“We feel Garret Hughson has earned the opportunity to be a starter in the WHL and if Alex Moodie can regain the form he showed as a young goaltender, we’ll have two capable starting goaltenders. We also expect Tyson Verhelst is ready to make the jump to the WHL, so we have good depth and competition for our goaltending position.”

Moodie, a 6’1”, 182 lb. goalie from Winnipeg, Manitoba, played in 28 games with the Blades last year - his third WHL season - posting a 4.29 GAA and 0.894 SV%. In his career, Moodie has played in 56 regular season games with a 4.19 GAA and 0.885 SV%. He appeared in one playoff game for Saskatoon (in 2013), allowing one goal on 20 shots in a relief effort.

In exchange for the goaltender, Spokane will send their 2016 4th Round WHL Bantam Draft selection to Saskatoon.

Moodie was Saskatoon’s 5th Round (108th Overall) selection in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.

Season ticket packages for the Chiefs’ 2014-15 season are on sale now. Visit the Chiefs’ Ticket Office in-person, call (509) 535-PUCK to speak to an Account Executive, or visit www.spokanechiefs.com for more information.
