MISSOULA - On Tuesday, we learned more about the 17-year-old Big Sky High School student who was shot and killed in a garage on Sunday.

Friends of Diren Dede said he was a talented soccer player who had a passion for living life to the fullest.

Dede's friends said he may have been in a foreign country, but it didn't take long for Dede to fit right in at Big Sky.

"You meet Diren for a minute and you feel like you're lifelong friends," said Dana Kowachek.

Kowachek said he met Diren Dede on the soccer field.

"One of the best seasons I've had yet was with Diren Dede," he said.

Another teammate, Zach Plasmier, said Dede was one of the best defensive backs to play for Big Sky, and he even earned All-State honors.

"I remember one time he got a huge bruise on his leg and he just kept wanting to play, he never wanted to stop," Plasmier said.

His friends say Dede was also passionate about traveling, evident in his decision to move from Hamburg, Germany to Missoula through the Council on International Educational Exchange, or CIEE.

"I know once he came here he just wanted to travel everywhere, he didn't want to stop," said Chance Maes.

Maes said Dede wanted to go to college and study business, but not before exploring more of the world.

"His dream was to come back in a couple years and rent an RV and just go to all 50 states," he said.

Maes said he and Dede grew close after realizing they were neighbors.

'"And I just picked him up a couple times and we just kind of had an instant connection and we became best friends really quick," he said.

Dede may have hailed from Germany, but he was of Turkish decent-- a combination his friends say attracted the ladies.

"He was the Turkish model… yeah they loved him," Kowachek laughed.

His friends said Dede was proud of his Turkish heritage, and introduced them to Turkish coffee and ice cream.

"He's literally the most genuine kid I've ever met," Maes said.

Kowachek added, "I just enjoyed every second with him, he was a good kid."

Dede arrived in Missoula back in August for the school year.

We'll keep you updated on any memorial services planned for Dede.

KHQ.COM - Mid August is about the time that we start to see spiders come into our homes, particularly the hobo spider. August and September is mating season for the hobo and that means you may be seeing more funnel-like webs in and around your home. Males are on a mission to find a female which is why they are a lot more active at this time.
