Training Tip: Targeting

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA - We bring you the training tip of the week from the Humane Society of Western Montana. This week Jean Biggins and Rocko teach us to target to help your pet overcome distractions.

Targeting is teaching your dog to touch a target with either a nose or paw. Start by holding a treat in your hand. Once, the dog touches his nose to you're hand, give him a treat. Overtime they'll figure out  how to be deliberate with their nose, and you can move the treat around more make it a little harder.

Rocko and all of the animals at the humane society are up for adoption. Head to the Humane Society of Western Montana website to find out how to make them part of your family.
