SPOKANE, Wash. - Former Spokane Chief and Spokane native Tyler Johnson has been added to the 2014 U.S. Men’s National Team and will compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Men’s World Championship May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus. Johnson was announced as a finalist for the NHL’s Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) earlier this week.

The 2014 tournament will not be the first international experience for Johnson, who contributed to two IIHF World Junior Championship for the United States while a member of the Chiefs. He helped lead the Americans to an upset win over the host and pre-tournament favorite Canadian team in 2010, scoring three goals and two assists in seven games. Johnson also played in the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, scoring once in six games as the USA lost in the quarterfinals.

Johnson played four seasons with the Chiefs from 2007-2011, scoring 128 goals (8th in franchise history) and 282 points (8th). He was a member of the Chiefs’ 2008 Memorial Cup Champion team, earning WHL Playoff MVP honors in his rookie season. His 53 goals during the 2010-11 season led the WHL.

Season ticket packages for the Chiefs' 2014-15 regular season are available now. Visit the Chiefs' Ticket Office or call a Chiefs Account Executive at 509-535-PUCK for more information.
