SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Broadway near Farr Road in Spokane Valley is back open after a lengthy standoff near Ness Elementary Friday afternoon.

The SWAT team, along with deputies from Spokane County and US Marshals were focused on one home in the area as they were trying to get a wanted suspect with a DOC warrant out of the house. The SWAT team tried communicating with the man and at one point even sent in the robot.

Nearby Ness Elementary was placed into lock down, along with a daycare, during the standoff. All of the children are fine.

Eventually the SWAT team went into the home, and minutes later brought the suspect out on a stretcher. He has been identified as 29-year-old Matthew Karbar. Officials say Carver had self-inflicted injuries because he tried to jump out of a window during the standoff. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
