Griz Baseball Surging to Make Playoffs

Posted: Updated:
The Griz baseball team is currently in second place in the North Division of the No-Pac Conference, it doesn't sound like a bad spot, unless your the squad expecting to be in first.

"We're not used to be the team fighting to get in we are used to being the team everyone is fighting to catch, but it's a good challenge for our guys a little bump in the road and the guys have handled it well," said Griz Head Coach Ryan Sharkey.

"We're not used to being down like this but we are a scrappy team, a little scrappier than we have been in years past, so we have to dig deep if we want to get there since we are hosting regional's and that's a lot of motivation," said Center Fielder Brad Bell.

The Griz looked plenty motivated this past weekend. They played a three game set against their rivals the Montana State Bobcats, winning all three by a combined score of 47-13.

"You know we are just trying to play well and get back to that first spot where we want to be and put together a good run here," said Third Baseman Nathan Jewett.

"All we need to do is get into the tournament whether we win the conference or not we just want that shot at the World Series," said Sharkey.

The Griz will lean on their experienced leaders down the stretch, as they have 13 seniors on the roster.  With all their games remaining at home the team says they will rely on one other thing as well, their home crowd.

"I mean it's awesome and you get pumped when you see all the fans in the stands, I love it and we play better with a bigger crowd for sure," said Bell.

"As a club sport I have been all over the country with these guys and I never see a crowd like we get here, there's something about Missoula that is pretty special," said Sharkey.

The Griz host the University of Idaho on April 26th and April 27th, with the regional tournament May 9th through the 11th and Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
