SPOKANE, Wash. – Emma Stach has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Gonzaga University this fall, Bulldog women’s basketball head coach Lisa Fortier announced Tuesday.

Stach has had a prolific playing career already in Germany; one that started at the ripe-old-age of 13.

The 5-9 guard is currently playing with Germany’s Avides Hurricanes of the Second Division of the Women’s National Bundesliga League and is averaging 17.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game.

“Emma is very highly regarded among anyone who knows her and her game,” explained Fortier. “She is a very good shooter, who is capable of scoring in a variety of ways. She provides instant offense, and will continue to improve under the tutelage of the upper class scorers we have returning next season.”

She became the youngest player of all time in the Second Women’s Bundesliga League, debuting at 13 and a year later became the youngest player in the Women’s First Bundesliga League at 14. Since age 13, Stach has played two seasons in the First Division and two years in the Second Division.

At age 15, she led the WNBL in points per game at 35.0, scored 59 points against Girls Recklinghausen – a single-game WNBL record, and was the youngest player to be in the starting lineup in the First Division.

A member of the German U-16 national team, Stach was the youngest player in the 2011 European Championship at 14 years old. Germany won the European Championship and Stach was tabbed the tournaments Best Point Guard, nominated for the All-Start Team and was the first German player to be the top scorer of the tournament; averaging 18.0 points per game.

Stach, who tuned 18 earlier this month, has not signed a contract with the German club because of her desire to play collegiately in the United States.

“Emma adds to the list of Current Zag players who have begun their collegiate career with the experience of a veteran,” stated Fortier. “With the absence of high school basketball in Germany, she plays against professionals every single day, which will enable her to transition easily to the high level that we compete at. I couldn’t be more excited about adding her to our 2014-15 roster.”

She will be one of two Germans on the Bulldog squad, joining senior-to-be Sunny Greinacher who hails from Essen, Germany. She also joins Greinacher and redshirt freshman Emma Wolfram as Zags with international playing experience.
