Oregon Completes Sweep of WSU

EUGENE, Ore. – Washington State lost a hard-fought game, 2-1 to No. 10 Oregon at PK park, Saturday in a Pac-12 Conference baseball game.

With the victory, the Ducks (31-10, 10-5 Pac-12) swept the three-game series from the Cougars (17-19, 7-8). Trent Paddon (1-2) picked up the win while Jason Monda (1-4) suffered the loss. Both hurlers went six innings with all the game’s scoring coming in the sixth. Garrett Cleavinger worked the ninth for his second save.

The Cougars threatened to get on the board first, but Nick Tanielu was cut down trying to score on a two-out single by Collin Slaybaugh in the fourth.

In the sixth, P.J. Jones singled, Yale Rosen doubled and Tanielu plated Jones with a ground out. Monda did not allow a runner past first through five innings, but issued a walk to lead off the sixth followed by a sacrifice bunt. A double and a single with two outs gave Oregon a 2-1 lead.

Pinch hitter Michael Monda was hit by a pitch go lead off the eighth and Jones sacrificed him to second. With two outs, Tanielu was intentionally walked. Luke Stratman singled to center, but Tanielu rounded second base too far and was tagged out before Monda could score the tying run.

The Cougars return home for a nonconference game with Gonzaga, Tuesday at 6 p.m.
