For the first time in years the Missoula Mavs had picture day with the sun shining bright getting them even more excited for the start of the season.
"The days go by and of course the excitement gets more and more and obviously the weather is perfect right now and hopefully we will get this Sunday and we're pretty excited to get out on the field again," said Senior Ryan Anderson.
As for the coaches perspective, opening day always comes quickly.
"We're never one hundred percent ready to start the season but we're ready to play and we will put the polish on later and we will do the things we have to do to win ball games," said Head Coach Brent Hathaway.
One thing the Mavs will rely on is leadership. They Mavs have eight seniors on the squad and will return two college kids in June.
"Obviously we have a lot of work to do and a long way to go but I definitely have the guys and the abilities to be up near the top again," said senior Matt McHugh.
The Mavs finished second at state last year and have come up just short in recent years, which has this team even more motivated this year.
"Definitely, it definitely does, last year was a let down and we know what we have to do and hopefully we have more intensity than last year," said Anderson.
Like in years past the Mavs should be a fun team to watch this year, with an explosive offense that will put up runs.
"This year I can tell we have been hitting the ball really well already as we have been getting our pitchers some live at bats. Like year after year we have just been hitting the ball well," said Anderson.
"Yea we will hit the ball and be an offensive group again and the thing that was impressive for us last year on the hill is we didn't walk people. Pitchers have to do the same thing this year we have to make them earn everything they get and we will score runs," said Hathaway.
