Oso Mudslide Estimated At 60 MPH; Missing List Down To 10

Posted: Updated:
SEATTLE (AP) - Landslide expert Richard Iverson estimates the Oso mudslide crashed into the community at about 60 miles per hour.

Iverson's computer model indicates the March 22 slide traveled faster and farther than expected. The slide off a 600-foot bluff ran out nearly a mile.

Iverson told The Seattle Times (http://is.gd/zdT3qc ) he hopes his study of the slide helps determine what caused the slide to liquefy so quickly. That information could be used to identify other landslide danger zones.

Iverson works from the U. S. Geological Survey's Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver.

Oso mudslide missing list down to 10 people

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Detectives with the Snohomish County sheriff's office were able to cross another name off the list of missing from the Oso landslide and it's now down to 10 people.

The death toll from the March 22 slide remains at 35 Wednesday, with the Snohomish County medical examiner's office still trying to identify four of those people.
