LOOK: Fire Destroys Newly Renovated Restaurant In Downtown Palouse

Posted: Updated:
PALOUSE, Wash. - Just after 5am Tuesday morning a fire broke out at the Old Palouse Tavern in downtown Palouse that completely destroyed the building which had recently been renovated and turned into a new restaurant.

Fire crews fought this fire defensively meaning that no one went inside the building but only attacked it from the outside. The ladder truck was used to fight the flames from above. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control fast enough that it did not spread to any other buildings.

KQQQ reporter, Amanda Roley described the fire as "spilling out of the building" and provided multiple pictures of the intensity of this fire from when she first arrived on scene to when the fire was finally extinguished. Multiple walls collapsed and SR 27 and Main going through Palouse were temporarily blocked off.

There have been no reports of injuries so far and the cause has not been determined.

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) - The settlers who founded Ellensburg in the 1870s were likely drawn by the plentiful water in creeks crisscrossing the valley, but as the city expanded, it grew right over those streams. Look at a Google map of downtown Ellensburg and you'll see Wilson Creek wind across Main Street.
