MISSOULA -

A long shot candidate for the U.S. Senate finds a backpack full of cash and cell phones outside his Missoula church this weekend.

Republican Champ Edmunds said he was fixing a backed up toilet at the Charity Christian Fellowship Church when he went out a seldom used door.

He found a backpack with more than $12,000 in it and handed it over to police. He says he suspects the money was tied to something illegal. Police are investigating.

Edmunds will face fellow republicans Steve Daines and Susan Cundiff in the primary.
