Hotel Developer Wants To Make A Deal With Council

Posted: Updated:
WHITEFISH -

A plan for a new hotel in Whitefish heads to city council tonight, hoping to bend the rules.

The proposed 76-room Hampton Inn would replace the old Wendy's along US 93.

There's one snag though, the zoning for the land doesn't allow for tall buildings like what the developer is thinking.

The developer is proposing a trade-off known as a plan unit development. In exchange for a break on the zoning, he will do something good for the city.

"It's just good to see that the economy is supporting that kind of proposal. I'm sure they've done their research," said John Wilson, the public works director for the city of Whitefish.

That council meeting kicks off just after 7:00 p.m. Monday.

If the plan passes, Wilson says the ground breaking could be just months away.
