North Idaho Woman Drowns In St. Joe River

SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho- On Saturday, April 05, 2014 at approximately 12:50 p.m., the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office, Forest Service, St. Joe EMS/Ambulance/Fire and St. Joe Search and Rescue responded to the area of milepost 62 on the St. Joe River Road concerning a possible drowning.

It was reported that a female, later identified as Elma Krasley, date of birth 08/13/1981 of Fernwood Idaho, attempted to walk across a shallow area of the St. Joe River when she lost her traction in the water and was swept away by the current. Local resources, as well as Life Flight, were then implemented to find and rescue Krasley.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., the body of Krasley was located by Life Flight and recovered from the water at approximately milepost 60 on the St. Joe River. Although the official cause of death has not been released, it appears as though Krasley died as a result of drowning. Notifications have been made to Krasley’s immediate family.

Spokane Police say the man walked in and showed employees the handgun.
